Classes for babies and their caregiver in the Hutt Valley

SPACE
SPACE is a fun, supportive and educational programme for first time parents and their babies during baby's first year.  Sessions are run by facilitators who have knowledge, experience, and training in early childhood, plus there's lots of music and opportunity to get to know other families in your area. Infants join the SPACE programme around 0-3 months of age. The programme runs weekly for 3-4 terms (i.e. 30-40 weeks)

Baby sign classes
Baby sign classes aim to help you and your pepe or toddler communicate using sign language before they are able to speak.  Talking Hands is a fun and interactive class using music and activities to learn sign.

Baby massage classes

BabyROO
Best for ages from 0-1 years. An instructor led gym class. BabyRoo classes help develop infants sensory stimulation through gentle movement, music, massage, tummy-time and dance. Yoga for Mums and Bubs
Emilie is trained in yoga for prenatal and women's health. She is currently running pre-natal yoga classes every Wednesday at 11:45am - 1:00pm ($12 a session). Mama/Buba Yoga Classes every wednesday at 1.15pm - 2:15pm. After school kids yoga (ages 6-12) at 3.15-4.15 ($8 a session). All sessions are held at the Eastbourne yacht club. Started in 1990, Mainly Music is a fun music group for parents or primary caregivers to enjoy together with their young child. Each Mainly Music session is associated with and run by volunteers from a local church. Find a group near you.

Walks suitable for buggies and prams
 
There are lots of fantastic walks throughout the Hutt Valley suitable for mountain buggies and prams. You might like to start another walking group in your area? Great spots are the waterfront along Petone and Eastbourne and the Hutt River trail. Check out buggywalk and gw.govt.nz.

Your child's first year

Baby learns “I belong” when she/he trusts their needs are met
Six weeks after your baby is born your primary maternity carer will refer you to Plunket, Nāku Ēnei Tamariki or another provider. They will visit you and pepe at home in the early weeks followed by clinic or further home visits for your child up to 5 years old. So much happens in your child's first year it can be bewildering keeping up!
